Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the concept version of the next-generation Swift hatchback at the Tokyo Motor Show. While the production model for India is still under wraps, the concept gives us a sneak peek into what we can expect from the new Swift when it likely launches in India next year.
The Swift has been one of Maruti’s strongest products in India with its sporty design, peppy performance and high fuel efficiency. The new generation model aims to build on these strengths while bringing modern styling and new features.

Futuristic Styling
The Swift concept features a more futuristic and angular exterior design compared to the current model. It gets sweptback LED headlamps with L-shaped DRLs, a blacked-out grille, piano black ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and an integrated rear spoiler with LED taillamps. The overall silhouette remains similar but the styling is much sharper.

Premium Cabin
While the interiors have not been revealed, we can expect a thoroughly updated cabin as well in the next-gen Swift. It could come with new features like a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and more. The dashboard layout is also likely to be reworked.
Hybrid Power
Under the hood, Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce their hybrid technology in the Swift. This would make it the most fuel efficient petrol hatchback in its segment. Engine options at launch though will mostly be carried forward – 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel. A CNG variant will continue to be offered as well.
While the India-spec next-gen Swift is still some time away, the concept gives us a fair idea of what to expect from this hugely popular hatchback. Maruti will be targeting younger buyers with the new sporty design while also upgrading the interior and adding new equipment.
